The One Who is Worthy | Daily Devotion
Read Revelation 5 NLT
In heaven, John sees God sitting on His throne, holding a scroll in His right hand. John’s attention is drawn to the scroll, which is sealed with seven seals preventing unauthorized viewing. This scroll could very well be the title deed to the earth. Then a strong angel shouts out, “Who is worthy to open the scroll?” And John freaks out; he starts to cry because no one could be found in heaven and on earth worthy enough to open the scroll. He is weeping profusely because he cannot see the answer to the problem—Revelation 5:1-4. Have you ever gotten upset because you did not see the answer to the problem you were facing? You were so confused by the circumstances surrounding you that you wanted to throw in the towel and give up?
In heaven, one of the 24 elders walks up to John and says, “Stop crying! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has conquered. The Messiah is here, Jesus Christ. He is worthy to open the scroll and break its seven seals”—Revelation 5:5. John looked, and he saw the Lamb that had been slain—Revelation 5:6. He saw Jesus. Jesus is alive!
Today, are you looking for Jesus? Christian, don’t let your emotions control you. Don’t lean on your own understanding—Proverbs 3:5-6. Purposefully look to Jesus and ask Him about your current situation. Jesus is the answer to every problem. Therefore, what He calls you to do in your current situation lines up entirely with the word of God in righteous steps filled with godly wisdom.
Jesus steps forward, still bearing the marks of the crucifixion, and He takes the scroll. He is the One who is worthy because He shed His blood for sinful mankind; He has the authority to break the seals on the scroll that will release judgment on the earth. So here is Jesus walking around heaven in authority and majesty, and the four-living beings and the redeemed fall down before Him singing a new song, a song of redemption—Revelation 5:7-9.
John is surrounded by worship and adoration of the Lord. The humility, reverence, and awe of the four living beings and the redeemed all point to the glory and majesty of God and the sacrificial love of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. The worship is breathtaking—Revelation 5:9-14.
Christian, has God been less to you than what He has promised? Has He not heard and answered your prayers? Are you not promised heaven? Then worship Him today! Worship stops the downward spiral self-focus brings; it gets your eyes off of yourself and your problems, placing them on the One who is Worthy. As you worship, your eyes focus on Jesus and the nature of God – His consistency and perfect character. You are reminded of the greatness of God, His love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness and you get the right perspective.
Jesus is the answer. He is Wisdom incarnate – 1 Corinthians 1:30. He is able. Look to Jesus.
Prayer: Abba, thank You for Jesus Christ and for Your perfect provision in our lives. In our times of sorrow, struggle, and confusion, may we look to Christ for He is the one who is able to not only carry us, but deliver us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
