Read Revelation 6 NLT

In Revelation 4 and 5 we get a glimpse of heaven and God in His majestic glory. We see the redeemed worshipping God, rejoicing in their salvation. It is a beautiful picture of God fulfilling His promise to protect his children from the Day of Judgment—Revelation 3:10.

Christian, be fearless—1 John 4:18! You are covered by the blood of the Lamb. You are promised heaven! Walk confidently in your calling as a soldier for Christ! Battle for lost souls today, because judgment is coming for them tomorrow.

For in Revelation 6, we see what is to come to those who reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We see the wrath of God poured out on sinful mankind in fierce judgment. We see the beginning of the Tribulation.

Here, John is in heaven watching Jesus, the Lamb, break open the seals and he sees the destructive outcome each seal has on earth. The judgments are progressive in nature. For we not only serve a God of justice, but a God of love. Don’t you think God would stop the judgments if all of mankind turned to Him in repentance? God wants people to repent. But He gives them the free will to choose. And they choose to reject Him and continue in their defiant sin; so with the opening of each seal the judgments increase in severity and intensity.

Four horsemen appear in the first four seals. The first seal – the rider comes on a white horse, symbolizing peace. This is the calm before the storm. The rider is the Antichrist—Matthew 24:3-5. People will follow him, obsessed with the peace he offers, but it is a false peace that is short lived.

The opening of the second seal reveals the second horse: a red horse symbolizing war. The rider of this horse is also the Antichrist and God allows him the power to remove peace from the world and create war and violent slaughter everywhere—Matthew 24:6-7.

The third seal brings a black horse, symbolizing the famine that will take place due to the worldwide wars that have destroyed the food supply. There will be global hunger—Matthew 24:7.

When Jesus opens the fourth seal, a green (or pale) horse emerges, representing death. The rider on the horse is identified as Death and Hades and God gives him the power to bring to death 25 percent of the world’s population.

As the fifth seal is opened, John sees under an altar the souls of believers who are martyred for their faith. These believers come to faith during the Tribulation period and are executed for their testimony. Here, these martyrs cry out to God asking when He will avenge their blood. And they are told to wait a little while longer. God will answer their prayers for vengeance in His timing.

Revelation 6 closes with the opening of the sixth seal. The sixth seal commences what the prophets in the Old Testament called the Day of the Lord—Revelation 6:17, Joel 1-2. It is God’s divine wrath seen in overwhelming earthquakes and natural disasters. It prompts tremendous fear amongst the people on earth, as they cannot escape the terror. Finally they acknowledge the source of all their trouble: Jesus Christ, the Lamb. And yet, they still do not repent.

Christian, these judgments are terrifying and they are coming to those who reject Jesus Christ. Today is the day of salvation—2 Corinthians 6:2. Be fearless in your testimony. Share the gospel: Jesus Christ saves!

Prayer: Abba, thank You for Your words of truth, You lovingly tell us what is to come so that we are prepared and can reach out to the lost with the hope found in the gospel. Praying for many to turn to You today, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
