The End: the Book of Revelation

Studying God’s word

A Vision

Read: Revelation 1:9-20

John walked and talked with Jesus, when He came as a humble servant to this earth – Philippians 2:5-8. John stood at the foot of the cross, listening intently as Jesus spoke some of HIs last words to him personally before dying an agonizing death – John 19:25-27. John knew Jesus was God – John 10:30, and it changed the way he lived! He lived and breathed Jesus, sharing Christ’s love with others. And he was persecuted because of it – Revelation 1:9. But that didn’t stop him! Do you know Jesus in that way? Does persecution stop you?

John was exiled to an island. He was removed from people, forced by the Roman authorities to stop preaching the Word and speaking about Jesus – Revelation 1:9. But John stood quietly, enduring the affliction, knowing it came by God’s divine direction; even in isolation, he remained in God’s presence – Revelation 1:10. And it was there that he heard a voice and received the vision of Christ’s glory – Revelation 1:10-20. There on the island, he received the command to write the book of Revelation. Know this, if you want to be used by God for His glory, people cannot stop God from using you!

In humility, John recognized that he was not the only one suffering for Christ – that others in the church were also patiently enduring through trial and tribulation – Revelation 1:9, 2:9-20. They needed hope! See, sometimes the greatest fruit in our lives is born out of affliction. When we ourselves are broken and on our knees, weak in the world’s eyes and weak before Christians, God uses us in powerful ways to meet needs that otherwise would not be met.

So, this message is to the church. “Hope has a name and it’s Jesus Christ!” His glory is reflected in the church. We are the bearers of light and Jesus is in our midst – Revelation 1:12-13! We are His bride! He laid down His life for us so that we would be found holy – Ephesians 5:25-27. We have nothing to fear – Revelation 1:17. We may be broken vessels, but God chose us to house the precious treasure of the gospel, so that the lost world would be reached – 2 Corinthians 4:7.

Christian! No weapon formed against you shall prosper – Isaiah 54:17. There’s not much time left. Jesus is returning. So be bold! Share the gospel.

Christian Book Excerpt – The Book of Revelation

James exhorts in 1:22 NLT, “Don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” This life is worth nothing if we don’t practice what we preach. We would have a saved soul and a lost life. The adventure truly begins when we apply His word to our life, living out these truths in the everyday.

We can’t do this on our own, though; so the Lord has given us the Holy Spirit to empower us to do His will. We are witness of the truth, pointing people to Jesus Christ. When we live God’s word, people encounter Jesus; as we are His hands and feet in the lives of others.

Witness

Acts 1:8 NKJV “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me … to the end of the earth.”

  1. Read Revelation 1:9. Have you ever felt isolated because of your faithful witness of Jesus Christ? How did Jesus reveal Himself to you?
  2. Do you know someone who stands alone in a certain situation, or who is isolated from a group of people and feels hopeless? How can you be Jesus’ hands and feet in their life?
  3. What are some different tactics the enemy has used against you to keep you from sharing Jesus with others?
  4. Read Psalm 46:10. Today, why do we fail to see Jesus moving in our midst? Why do we not see His glory? Explain and share a verse.
  5. When John saw Jesus, he fell down at His feet as if he were dead. But Jesus said, “Fear not!” – Revelation 1:17. We know we are sinful people, how come we don’t have to be afraid of being in God’s presence? Explain and share a verse.
  6. Read Revelation 1:19-20 and 1 Corinthians 15:58. What is your role in the church? How can you further God’s Kingdom where He has placed you? (i.e: invite friends to church/bible study, share the gospel with friends and family, help your neighbor, etc.)
  7. Read Revelation 1:11, 19. In both verses, Jesus told John to “write.” What is Jesus specifically calling you to do? Share.

Prayer:

Thank You Lord for using me, for Your glory, where You have placed me.
