"Let Christ himself be your example as to what your attitude should be. For he, who had always been God by nature, did not cling to his prerogatives as God’s equal, but stripped himself of all privilege by consenting to be a slave by nature and being born as mortal man. And, having become man, he humbled himself by living a life of utter obedience, even to the extent of dying, and the death he died was the death of a common criminal. That is why God has now lifted him so high, and has given him the name beyond all names, so that at the name of Jesus “every knee shall bow”, whether in Heaven or earth or under the earth. And that is why, in the end, “every tongue shall confess” that Jesus Christ” is the Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

The humble attitude is witnessed so clearly by the crowd watching so intently. We can't escape the eyes of those who see; we can't escape the ears of those who hear. As we walk this earth, encountering all whom God places in our path, our attitude will represent Jesus Christ to them or it won't. There are times when you only have one opportunity to reflect Jesus Christ's humble attitude to the person right in front of you. But so often, we aren't thinking of the other. We are thinking of ourselves. It takes a continual abiding in Christ to reflect Jesus Christ.

The King came to serve. The King came to die the death we deserved. This meek Man gave us the perfect example of humility to follow. Perfect in nature, we will never be. Makes life interesting. But God's goal for His own, is to conform us into Christ's image; and that means a fire of refinement for you and me.

Humility doesn't control—it leads.

One with the Father, Jesus saw our need; our need to be led in humility. Jesus knew He would not always be with His disciples; and thus, perfect provision was made.

"These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you"— John 14:25-26.

Jesus spoke with perfect clarity, while with His disciples; teaching them truth. In His perfect love, He didn't control their every move. Thus, when He was gone they learned sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit; and out of their love for Him went into all the world to preach the gospel— Mark 16:15; making disciples of all the nations— Matthew 28:19.

Humility invites growth—it invites a loving response.

Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, taught us how to have humble attitudes—Psalm 119:24.

• Humility involves both forgiving and asking for forgiveness because in both instances it is others focused—Colossians 3:13.
• Humility is genuinely caring about the other; rejoicing with them when they rejoice, and weeping when they weep—Romans 12:15.
• Humility is not consumed with self; recognizing they are not the center of the universe and their actions, speech and conduct affect everyone in their family—Ephesians 5:22-6:4 .
• Humility is seen in a deep desire to use their spiritual gifts for God’s glory, knowing that when they do others are taken deeper in their walk with God—Ephesians 4:1-16. God did not give them that gift for themselves, but so that others would benefit.
• Humility wants the best for others, recognizing God has the best for them—Philippians 2:4.
• Humility does not lie—Proverbs 6:17; because lying involves a sense of superiority, as if one were allowed to withhold truth for a superior purpose.
• Humility does not humiliate—Colossians 3:17; it walks in the fear of the Lord—Psalm 111:10.

When the Word of Christ dwells in you—Colossians 3:16, you will reflect His humble attitude.

Will you pray with me?

Abba! Thank You for the example of humility found in Your Son. Lord would You fill us with Your Holy Spirit- Ephesians 5:18, with eyes focused on You- Hebrews 12:1-2; overflowing with genuine love for all those around us. Praying King, that we, Christians, would think of what is best for others; taking our eyes off of ourselves. Humility is witnessed by others; often unknown to self as eyes look inward. So, we ask You to search the depths of our heart to reveal anything within that offends You—Psalm 139:23-24. Forgive us King. You reveal pride perfectly. Thank You! Praying we would desire to reflect You in truth; as a humble attitude impacts the depths of a heart pointing people to Jesus Christ, greater than pride does. And humility's impact is lasting and far reaching. Pride destroys. It drives people away. Humility builds, and draws people close. Jesus' example is how our attitude should be. Abba, we are human in need of a Savior. We sin so clearly and You saw our very need. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ! For there is only One God. One Deliverer. One King. Praying we all live Your Word, today. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
