Powerful Prayers in the Bible

The powerful prayers in the Bible show us this truth – God has given us the sweet privilege of prayer to know Him. There is so much to this life here on earth, but there is more to life than what will take place on earth. Prayer, a two-way conversation with God – a dialogue, not a monologue – therefore, opens our eyes to God here on earth and prepares us to meet Him face to face in heaven.

It is here in prayer, where we build our relationship with God and with Jesus Christ, and we grow in recognizing the Holy Spirit’s movement. Truly, the best way to grow in our relationship with God is to talk to Him and to listen to Him. For this is eternal life – knowing God and Jesus Christ whom He sent – John 17:3.

Heaven encompasses knowing God, so why not get to know Him today by your own freewill? Your choice tells the unseen world, you choose Christ – you choose the Wisdom of God – over Satan’s way and the world’s ideology.

Colossians 1:9-14 NLT “So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”

Ephesians 1:15-20 NLT “Ever since I first heard of you strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called – his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT “When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

1 Timothy 1:17 NLT “All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.”

Jude 25 NLT “All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ out Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time. Amen.”

Revelation 4:11 NLT “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

Luke 22:42 NLT “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Matthew 6:9-13 NLT “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”

Luke 18:13 NLT “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.'”

Job 42:1-6 NLT “Then Job replied to the LORD: ‘I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, “Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?” It is I – and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, “Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.” I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”
