Overflowing with Gratitude

We live in a generation of entitlement, with minds focused inward on what they believe they deserve, while lacking understanding and knowledge or care for those they burden. Entitled minds are demanding and forceful, and they weigh down the righteous. God does not call us to live this way. We will never be satisfied, when we seek to satisfy our sin; and selfish entitlement is sin.

We are exhorted in Colossians 2:6-7 NLT, “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

When our roots grow down into Christ, with our lives built on Him we don’t look to others to fulfill our expectations, we look to Jesus Christ. We have a strength of character that matches Christ Jesus, no matter what we face in this world. We endure like Christ. We do not feel entitled to what we do not own, or to special privileges, we respect others and trust God for our provision. When Jesus Christ – our Savior, best friend, and Shepherd – fills our lives, we cannot help but thank Him for His goodness. Our speech overflows with gratitude because we have experienced our faith being strengthened by Him alone and His pure touch in our life.

Truly, our gratitude mirrors the condition of our heart.
